With Shelter’s support, the Bosnian Women’s Rights Organization LARA was able in 2001 to set up a much-needed shelter in Bijeljina in northern Bosnia, an area that had become a major hub for the trafficking of women. Women and girls who had either been freed through police intervention or who had managed to escape on their own found here a place of safety and support.
